On the occasion of Europe Day, academic initiative of the University of Rijeka: The Center for Advanced Studies Southeast Europe and the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, on May 11, 2026<\/strong> at 10:30 AM (FFRI, Room 230)<\/strong>, are organizing a panel on the topic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EU Framework Programme FP10: What values will future European science be based on?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the level of the European Commission and the European Parliament, intensive discussions and negotiations are currently underway on the model for financing research and innovation in the next Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2028\u20132034, particularly through the future Framework Programme FP10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will FP10 remain an independent financial instrument? How will it be positioned in relation to the increasingly strong emphasis on competitiveness, strategic autonomy, and the so-called \u201cdual use\u201d \u2013 civil and military? What does the increasingly frequent demand for the \u201cdirectionality\u201d of research and innovation entail? Where, within such a framework, does the autonomy of scientific work stand, and where is the principle of an \u201cexclusive focus on civil applications\u201d from the existing regulations?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particularly important question is what position Croatia takes in these discussions, and how the final FP10 model might affect the work, development, and international standing of the scientific system in Croatia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These and related issues will be discussed by the roundtable participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
