Organized by the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, in cooperation with the Institute for Democracy, Social Justice and Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Law, a three-day workshop for the staff of University of Rijeka, titled Conflict Transformation in Theory and Practice, was held in Rijeka from 26 to 28 February. The workshop was led by Dr. Valentina Otmačić, Deputy Head of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies and an experienced trainer.
The objectives of the workshop were:
- To enable participants to acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of peace and conflict, such as understanding the causes and dynamics of interpersonal and intergroup conflicts, violence analysis, and exploration of possible approaches to conflict management, among other topics.
- To enable participants to develop basic skills needed for the constructive transformation of conflicts in both private and professional environments.
- To encourage the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and skills among participants related to conflict transformation, as well as to foster the development of a network of cooperation and mutual support among participants.
Here is what some of the participants said about the workshop:
“I felt very comfortable throughout the entire workshop, even though the topic of conflict is one of the most uncomfortable topics for me. What will certainly stay with me is that the workshop helped me be less afraid of my own fear of conflict. With the friendly and relaxed atmosphere at the workshop, I somehow realized that many people are afraid of conflict and that it is something that can be discussed openly, constructively, and in a structured way.”
“What I particularly liked: the way the workshop was conducted. Sitting in a circle. Active listening, but also the active participation of all participants. Of course, your open approach to discussion and encouraging the exchange of thoughts. The topic is very relevant to everyday life, and what we learned is useful both professionally and personally. I truly feel enriched.”
“Rating 10/10… it was empowering and healing.”
