Memory Walk “On the Paths of Gorski Kotar Peacekeepers” will be held on Sunday, September 21st this year. It is scheduled to start at 3 pm in Mrkopalj, and you can find the program below.
While 2025 is the year that marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the 1991-1995 armed conflict in Croatia, Gorski Kotar is one of the rare multiethnic areas in the country where residents of Croatian and Serbian ethnic origin did not engage in inter-ethnic violence. As Josip Horvat writes in his book “Oasis of Peace”, in Gorski Kotar “the only intolerance was towards the war”. The wise actions of the Gorski Kotar local leadership and population prevented the loss of life, property and good neighborly relations, and preserved centuries-old cooperation and living together.
During the memory walk, we will remember the key moments of resistance to violence in the Gorski Kotar region and pay tribute to individuals from the local community who engaged in preserving local peace.
