Dr. Valentina Otmačić, Deputy Head of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Rijeka, delivered a guest lecture in Ljubljana on 8 December 2025. Dr. Otmačić visited Ljubljana at the invitation of Assoc. Prof. Alenka Bartulović from the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.
The lecture, entitled “When a Community Says No to Interethnic Violence: Constructive Resistance and Conflict Transformation in Gorski Kotar (Croatia) and Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina),” was followed by an engaging discussion with students on topics such as the problem of the normalization of violence in history textbooks, the persistent challenges of reconciliation that make work on the prevention of interethnic and other forms of violence particularly important, as well as other current issues related to peace and conflict.
