Dr Tena Prelec Participates in International Academic and Policy Events in Astana

In June 2026, Dr Tena Prelec, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CSMK), University of Rijeka, visited Astana, Kazakhstan, where she took part in a series of academic and policy events focusing on transnational finance, corruption, and international cooperation in tackling illicit financial flows.

As part of the GI-ACE project, she delivered a workshop on identifying enabler networks at Maqsut Narikbayev University. The workshop brought together researchers and practitioners interested in developing new approaches to studying transnational corruption and the role of professional intermediaries in facilitating illicit financial activity.

During her visit, Dr Prelec also participated in policy discussions with representatives of Kazakh authorities and the British Embassy Astana, focusing on opportunities for international collaboration in addressing illicit finance and strengthening financial integrity.

Dr Prelec also presented her research at the annual conference of the Central Eurasian Studies Society, hosted by Nazarbayev University. The conference brought together more than 400 scholars from around the world. Her presentation explored transnational enabling with a particular focus on Central Asia, further strengthening the international profile of research conducted at CSMK and the University of Rijeka.

This visit provided an opportunity to deepen academic collaboration, engage with policymakers, and expand CSMK’s research networks in Central Asia.
