Dr Barbara Frey, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies of the University of Rijeka, participated in the Danubius Young Researchers programme and visited the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy.

The visit was organised for the recipients of the Danubius Young Researchers Award, which recognises outstanding early-career researchers from countries of the Danube Region. The programme provided awardees with a unique opportunity to engage directly with the European Commission’s science and knowledge service and to gain insights into the role of research in shaping European public policy.

The programme offers an important platform for networking among early-career researchers from the Danube region and for strengthening cooperation between academia and European institutions. The visit was particularly relevant to the objectives of the ENVIJUST-WB project, which examines the political economy of the green transition, extractivism and environmental justice in the Western Balkans.

The Danubius Young Researchers programme is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research and European Commission, which covered the participants’ travel and accommodation costs during their stay in Ispra.
