In broader context of increase of armed conflicts and violence around the world, in Croatia in 2026 after 17 years again was introduced obligation of basic military training.

However, the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Croatia foresee and guarantee possibility of call of conscience to persons who from religious or moral convictions are not ready to participate in performing of military duties in armed forces.

While the large majority of people agrees with the claim that it wants to live in security and peace, about paths to achievement of that ideal opinions are numerous and very different. But one is certain: choice exists and to it everyone has right.

What is right to objection or call of conscience? How is it realized in practice in the Republic of Croatia and other contexts? How about military obligation, objection of conscience, security and building of peace think children and young people in Rijeka, and how educators, experts and cultural workers?
