On Saturday, 10 January 2026, the first assembly of the initiative “On the Pathways of Gorski Kotar Peacebuilders” was held in Delnice. Representing the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies of the University of Rijeka, the assembly was attended by Dr. Valentina Otmačić.
In addition to the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, the initiative, launched in 2024, brings together individuals from the Gorski Kotar region dedicated to fostering peacebuilding, as well as non-governmental organizations including the Youth Initiative for Human Rights – Croatia, HERMES, the Association for a Better World, and the Centre for Peace Studies from Zagreb. The two key objectives of the initiative are the preservation and promotion of the legacy of peace in Gorski Kotar and the collective memory of individuals who, during the 1990s, ensured that armed conflict did not occur in the Gorski Kotar area, as well as the revival of the activities of the Peace School.
Participants of the assembly reflected on the key achievements and challenges the initiative faced during 2025. They expressed satisfaction with the expansion and strengthening of the initiative over the past year and went on to outline future directions and key activities for 2026 and 2027.
