While the 30th anniversary of the end of the war is being marked across Croatia in 2025, Gorski Kotar is one of the rare areas in Croatia where residents of both Croatian and Serbian nationality live, and where there was no armed conflict between 1991 and 1995. As Josip Horvat writes, in Gorski Kotar the only intolerance was towards the war. The wise actions of the Gorski Kotar local leadership and population prevented the loss of life, property and good neighborly relations, and preserved centuries-old cooperation and living together.
With the memorial walk, we will remember the key moments of resistance to war violence in the Gorski Kotar area and pay tribute to individuals from the local community who fought to preserve local peace.
The memorial walk will take place on Sunday, September 21, at 3 p.m., and more information will be published soon.
